Welcome to your new course of study at MCDT; Further Dressmaking, a course suitable for those students who have completed our in-house Dressmaking course or those who have completed similar elsewhere. The aim of this year-long course, is to elevate your current skill set, to introduce you to new methods of work and to present you with new possibilities.
- You will continue to expand your Sewing Sample Catalogue, with the aim of increasing your technical abilities.
- You will choose up to 2 commercial sewing patterns to work with, aiming to work with more complex garment designs and consider basic pattern alterations.
- You will undertake a small project learning about stretch/knit fabrics, understanding their qualities and requirements when creating garments.
- You will further your knowledge of fabrics, haberdashery, notions and pressing throughout the course allowing you to continue your Fabric Swatch Book compilation.
- The Overlocker: you may have an overlocker/ serger, or you may be thinking of buying one. This machine sews, trims and neatens fabric edges………. and much more. You will create samples of a variety of techniques achievable on this versatile machine.
