I spent three years studying at Mallow college of Fashion and it’s been incredible, so much so that i travelled each week for an hour and a half each way from Clonakilty in order to attend! The tutors were great and so knowledgable – I had Jess in year 1 and 2, and Sue in year 3. If it wasn’t for moving away up North I would have continued on as there is so much more to learn in sewing. In year 1 they teach you the basics of pattern drafting and some sewing fundamentals like putting a zip, adding a waistband, and sewing various pockets. In year 2 and 3, it goes a lot deeper in couture techniques and pattern drafting, and requires a massive commitment as you are expected to research a whole century of fashion and various fashion designers, as well as designing 2 outfits (Year 2) and a collection of 3 full outfits in year 3. Sometimes i felt overwhelmed with the amount of work expected of us (forget about having a life aside from college in year 2 and 3 if you also happen to have a job!) but i feel so proud to have persevered with it. With continued effort and dedication you can achieve anything!
